TEDDY BEARS PICNIC

Over the last two weeks we have been writing about bears. On Friday we all brought our Teddy Bears to school. We made crowns for ourselves and our teddies. Our teddies ate their brain food when we did. We all went down to the wood at the bottom of the back field and had a picnic with our teddies.
We had a great time telling our friends about our special Teddy. Keep looking on the blog for some of our Teddy Bear writing.

CELEBRATING OUR CULTURES.

Last Thursday was race relations day. Along with the rest of the school we celebrated all of the different cultures at Sunnybrae. We dressed up in our national costumes, played games from different countries and made arts and crafts. Some of our Teacher Aides even shared their cultures too.
In Room 4 our cultures are from all over the world, Chinese, Indian, English, Italian, Cook Islands, Samoan, Maori and New Zealand. It has been fun to learn about our differences, similarities and cultures.

SWIMMING

We have been learning how to swim each afternoon. We are able to get in and out of the pool safely, feel confident in the water, put our heads under, use a board to float and kick and some of us are just learning to use our arms to do freestyle. On Thursday afternoon we all participated in the Junior Swimming Carnival.
It has been nice to cool down on the hot afternoons. Look at the photos of us enjoying the water.

“I can write !”

This week we have been reading the big book
“I Can Write.”  It's about all the different ways you can write words. We decided we would have a go at writing our words in different ways. We used chalk and water on the concrete, our whiteboards and paint. We got lots of practise at writing words and……
we had lots of fun too.

ROCKY SHORE TRIP

Along with the rest of the Junior Syndicate Room 4 went to Castor Bay. We had a wonderful time exploring the rock pools. We found all sorts of creatures including starfish, shrimp, anemones and crabs. Who would have thought there were so many different types of seaweed? It was hard work clambering over the rocks and we certainly enjoyed our lunch sitting under the big tree. Then we had fun playing on the playground and building sandcastles. It was soon time to climb back on the bus and return to school. We were very tired but had a great time.

STEPPING OUT WITH CONSTABLE HARWOOD

Last week Constable Harwood visited our class and showed us how to be safe when we’re out walking. We learnt about the safe way to walk along the footpath keeping to the house side. We practiced crossing the road the right way at the traffic lights and what to do when a vehicle is parked on the footpath. We even got to sit in the police car with Mrs Morley. It was great fun.

Look out for hazards on the footpath.

Walk close to the house side of the footpath when a vehicle is parked on the footpath.

What are you looking for Mrs Morley?

Stop! Look! and Listen before you cross the street.

Walk quickly across the road and keep checking for vehicles.
